Virender Sehwag climbed up another milestone with his natural cool cool  styles. The beloved Viru of India smashed 219 to steal the ‘once non-realistic’ one-day record from Sachin Tendulkar.
It was happened at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore in the 4th ODI against West Indies. This is the highest ever score in a one-day international by any batsman in the world. Sehwag blasted 25 fours and seven sixes in the match. In this dream run he took India to 418 for five, the team’s highest ever score in one-day cricket as well.

Sehwag became only the second batsman in history to score a double century in a one-day international following Sachin Tendulkar, who made 200 not out against South Africa in Gwailor in 2010.

In Tests, Sehwag has scored centuries against all the Test-cricket playing nations except Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. He is one among the six leading Test century makers for India. In 2001, he became the eleventh Indian player to score a century on Test debut, when scored 105 runs against South Africa. His centuries have been scored at fourteen cricket grounds, eight of which were outside India. He has scored 200 runs or more six times, the most by an Indian batsman, of which a record three have come against Pakistan. One such innings, the 254 in Lahore, had him involved in a 410-run partnership with Rahul Dravid. Sehwag is the only Indian to have scored a triple century, and has done so twice (309 against Pakistan in Multan in 2004 and 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008). The latter is the fastest triple century in Test cricket, in just 278 balls and was also rated as one of the top 10 Test innings of all time by the ICC rankings.
He was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World in 2008. He is the third batsman to score two triple centuries, alongside Sir Donald Bradman and Brian Lara. He scored 12 centuries and holds a record for the most consecutive hundreds of over 150.

In ODIs, Sehwag has scored 15 centuries and that too against six opponents. He is third in the list of leading century-makers in ODIs for India. His maiden century was made against New Zealand at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo in 2001. He has scored a record five centuries against Sri Lanka. One such century in Hamilton in 2009 was the fastest by an Indian, coming from just 60 deliveries. Of these centuries, five were scored at home grounds and eight were at outside venues. He has been dismissed five times in the nineties as well.

The 21-year-old - also voted Most Improved Player - won six titles in all including Wimbledon, her first Grand Slam crown. She also won end of season WTA championships and led her country to the Fed Cup trophy. She actually rose from the 34th rank to second behind Caroline Wozniacki.

Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu won Newcomer Of The Year after a breakthrough season that saw her reach two finals - both on clay at Marbella and Budapest - and rise from 214 in the world to 38, eventually finishing it at 40th.

Usain Bolt, the Athlete of the Year

The Jamaican star sprinter Usain Bolt was presented the Athlete of the Year Award. This is for the third time that Bolt received this award. Sally Pearson of Australia, the world 100m hurdles champion, won the women's award. Both athletes got checks for $100,000!

Bolt was previously honored in 2008 and 2009 by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the governing body of athletics. He was under the clutches of an injury in 2010 but returned to form in 2011 and defended his 200m world championship. He also anchored the  Jamaican relay team to win the 4x100m relay in a world record time of 37.04 seconds.Bolt was disqualified for a false start in the 100m final won by his compatriot Yohan Blake, but managed to win his other five 100m races. He also scored the best time of 9.76 seconds. The 25-year-old Pearson won gold in South Korea and set a timing of 12.28 seconds, the fastest for 19 years. This is also the fourth best time in history.
Other award winners included Blake for best male performance of the year with his 19.26 seconds run in the 200m at the Diamond League final in Brussels. Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya won the women's prize for her 5,000/10,000m double gold haul in Daegu.

Sri Lankan Premier League following IPL

Indian Premier League is going to have a replica in another cricket country in Asia, Sri Lanka. The news is that as many as 12 Indian cricketers, including Munaf Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, are expected to feature in the first edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL). SLPL is scheduled to commence from July 19, 2011.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has ensured the services of several  prominent overseas cricketers, including Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, who are currently engaged in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as per the latest report. SLPL is also expected to feature Daniel Vettori, the captain of Royal Challengers.

Among the other Indian players on the SLPL, Praveen Kumar, who was recently selected for the Indian team for the West Indies tour, also is there. The other Indian players who figure in the list  include Dinesh Karthik, Irfan Pathan, Manish Pandey, Manoj Tiwary, Paul Valthaty, Ravindra Jadeja, Saurabh Tiwary, Umesh Yadav and Vinay Kumar.

The list, which in all features 33 overseas players so far, also includes the names of David Warner,  Albie Morkel, Herschelle Gibbs, Kevin O'Brien and Pakistan players like Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Akmal, and Tamim Iqbal.

The Indian cricket captain M S Dhoni, who inspired the country to its first ODI World Cup title in 28 years, has been ranked above US President Barack Obama and global soccer icon Lionel Messi in Time magazine's list of 100 most influential people in the world for 2010. Dhoni is only the second Indian sportsman after Sachin Tendulkar to make the prestigious list.
Dhoni is ranked 52nd in the chart. He is the only Indian sportsperson to make this year’s list as well. The other Indians named were Mukesh Ambani (No. 61), V S Ramachandran (79), Azim Premji (88) and Aruna Roy (89). Obama was ranked only No. 86 and Messi at No. 87. The list was topped by Wael Ghonim, the Google executive who became the 'spokesman for a revolution' in Egypt.
The 29-year-old Dhoni, who has 2,925 runs in 54 Tests and 6,049 runs in 186 one-dayers, is the most successful Indian captain, under whom the team also won the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in 2007. The magazine described Dhoni as "captain fantastic". "Dhoni is now universally acknowledged as India's best captain ever. He's also its most likeable, exuding both cool confidence and down-to-earth humility.

India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in a thrilling final to clinch the World Cup. This is the second  title since 1983. Sri Lanka smashed 91 from their last 10 overs to post 274-6 in Mumbai Wankhade stadium, with Mahela Jayawardene making a superb 103 not out. India lost Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early on but Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Dhoni rebuilt the innings. Gambhir was out for 97, but captain Dhoni's brilliant unbeaten 91 led India to an emphatic win with 10 balls to spare. In a nutshell, India 277 for 4 (Gambhir 97, Dhoni 91*) beat Sri Lanka 274 for 6 (Jayawardene 103*, Sangakkara 48) by six wickets.
The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenth Cricket World Cup, and was hosted by three South Asian Test cricket playing countries; India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The first match was played on 19 February 2011 between India and Bangladesh.
29 matches out of 49 were played in India including one quarterfinal, semi-final and final, 12 matches in Sri Lanka including one quarterfinal and semifinal and eight matches in Bangladesh including two quarterfinals.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who played a wonderful innings in the final was adjudged the man of the match. India's Yuvraj Singh was declared the man of the tournament.
The biggest upset of the torunament was the defeat of England by Ireland. Ireland's Kevin O'Brien scored a century in just 50 balls (and a total of 113 off 63 balls), the fastest World Cup century, while Ireland made the highest successful run chase in World Cup history, against England.

Prize Money
The 2011 Cricket World Cup winning team got a prize money of US$ 3 million and US$ 1.5 million for runner-up, with the International Cricket Council deciding to double the total allocation for the coveted tournament to US$ 10 million. The winning team also got a replica of the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy, that has been awarded since 1999. The total prize money for the tournament for the teams placing from 1st to 8th is US$7.48 million. The remaining two semi-finalists will receive 0.75 million US$ each. The last four quarter-finalists will each receive 0.37 million US$.

Saina Nehwal Wins Swiss Open!

Indian badminton superstar Saina Nehwal bagged her first title of the year in style. Saina won the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold trophy with a straight-game victory against Ji Hyun Sung of Korea in Switzerland.

Second seed Saina beat Ji Hyun 21-13 21-14 in forty three minutes to create amends for her quarterfinal exit from the All England Super Series in Birmingham last week.

The Swiss Open triumph was Nehwal’s third Grand Prix Gold title win after Chinese Taipei (2008) and Indian Open (2010). Now 21, Saina has also come trumps in four Super Series finals at Indonesia (twice), Singapore and Hong Kong over the last two years.

The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will be the tenth Cricket World Cup and will be hosted by three South Asian Test cricket playing countries: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It will be Bangladesh's first time co-hosting a Cricket World Cup. The World Cup will use cricket's One Day International format, with fourteen national cricket teams scheduled to compete. The World Cup will take place between February and early April 2011, with the first match to be played on 19 February 2011 with co-hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The opening ceremony was held on 17 February 2011 at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka.

Stumpy is the official mascot for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He is a ten year old elephant who is enthusiastic and is determined.


The official song of the 2010 World Cup "De Ghuma Ke" is composed by the trio of Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, and is sung in Hindi, Bangla and Sinhala. It has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Divya Kumar. It incorporates an array of Indian rhythms, as well as elements of rock and hip-hop. The song was performed in the opening ceremony.

The official event ambassador for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is Sachin Tendulkar.
The 1983 Cricket World Cup (Prudential Cup) was the third edition of the tournament. It was held from 9 June to 25 June 1983 in England and was won by India. Eight countries participated in the event. The preliminary matches were played in two groups of four teams each, and each country played the others in its group twice. The top two teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals.


The matches consisted of 60 overs per team and were played in traditional white clothing and with red balls. They were all played during the day. England, Pakistan, India and tournament favorites West Indies qualified for the semifinals.

Rafael Nadal : World Sportsman of the Year!

Tennis star Rafael Nadal bagged the most prestigious ‘World Sportsman of the Year’ at the Laureus World Sports Awards. In this run he run ahead star footballers Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta. The World Cup winning Spanish football side walked away with the ‘World Team of the Year’ trophy.

The ‘World Sportswoman of the Year’ award went to American alpine skiier Lindsey Vonn, who beat off competition from Belgian tennis ace Kim Clijsters, who won a second straight US Open and four other events last year, Serena Williams, and world number one tennis player Caroline Wozniacki among others.
Vonn had secured her third straight skiing World Cup and the Olympic Downhill gold medal last year. World number one Nadal — who completed a career slam last year by clinching the US Open, French Open and the Wimbledon to go with his 2009 Australian Open triumph — walked away with the top honours by pipping pre-awards favourites Messi and Iniesta. It was Nadal’s second after the Laureus Breakthrough Award in 2006.

Asian Games: Second Silver To Gagan Narang

Here again Gagan taking his country’s pride up. Ace shooter Gagan Narang picked up his and India's second medal at the Asian Games. He bagged  the silver in the 10m air rifle individual event by scoring a total of 700.7. The current world record is in his name (703.5). China's Qinan Zhu got gold in this event with a score of 702. Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra failed to even qualify for the finals. 

 Korean Kiwon Kim (596+104) took the bronze medal. Narang won three bronze medals in Doha Games four years ago. Earlier, Narang, Bindra and Rajput had combined to fetch a silver in the 10m air rifle team event.

Tendulkar , Ambassador for the 2011 Cricket World Cup

India’s ‘cricket god’ Sachin Tendulkar is appointed the official event ambassador for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. The announcement was made by the International Cricket Council. With this Tendulkar will be called upon to promote and support a variety of ICC initiatives for the World Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka from February 19 to April 2, 2011. 
Tendulkar  will join Pakistan's Javed Miandad as the only other player to take part in six World Cups. 
"In terms of limited-overs cricket, the ICC Cricket World Cup is the highest level you can play so it is always a thrill to take part in such an important and widely followed event," Tendulkar said. 
"The fact that the 2011 event will be staged here in the sub-continent makes it even more special for me and I am keen to ensure we play well. As a team we would be doing everything we can to win the world cup on home soil," Tendulkar added. 
ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: "We are very lucky to have such an extraordinary player as Sachin supporting our flagship event. 
"I don't think any other player has inspired a nation like he has and the respect and affection he enjoys goes way beyond his native India. Many other athletes and sports fans around the globe admire what he consistently achieves and what he does for cricket."

Zulqarnain Haider, the Pakistani Wicketkeeper made Public Appearance

What happened to the Pakistanis? Especially to its cricket team!  Anyways, news coming from the Pakistani cricket are not at all good for at least those who love cricket. Incidents are many...the murder of the foreign coach, the firing incident against the Sri Lankans, the spot fixing issue, inside rivalries and so on...The latest one is created by the wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider who fled to England fearing the ‘fixing gundas’!?

Zulqarnain Haider made his first public appearance ever since fleeing from Dubai in the middle of the One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa when he held press conference at a restaurant in London and admitted that he ran for life and wants to be safe.
It was on Monday 8th November 2010 that the wicketkeeper had fled the Pakistan team hotel in Dubai hours before the decisive fifth ODI against South Africa, claiming he was facing serious threats from people who wanted him to fix the last two ODIs. But, rumours started floating that he indeed was involved in match-fixing and had taken Rs. three crore. Though, Zulqarnain Haider claimed that he was clean.
"I am requesting Pakistan government and the British government and police members to seal my accounts and check all accounts all over the world and if anything proves that I was involved, I will face anything," said Haider.
Eversince arriving in London, Zulqarnain has been seeking asylum in the United Kingdom and also pleaded with the Pakistani government to assure the safety of his family as the fixers had threatened to kill them. Haider further said that he just wants to be "safe" and remain "in peace" where ever that would be (Pakistan or UK). He said that he was a good citizen in Pakistan and would remain so anywhere he stays.
However, the 24-year-old's central contract has been suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board has also appointed a three member fact-finding committee to find out the reasons for his fleeing the team hotel without informing anyone. Director of Cricket Operations, PCB, Zakir Khan has said that the Board is not in contact with Haider till now and the keeper had violated the terms and conditions of his contract.
Let’s wait a little bit and see who is guuilty and what is happening. Anyways something fishy in PAK cricket.

Sachin's Bat brought 42 Lakhs!!!

Sachin Tendulkar is the most loved and trusted sportsperson India has ever produced, so to say. He is about get a half century in the number of centuries as well. Most of the existing batting records are in his account. Now the latest about him is that his willow fetched the highest bid of Rs 42 lakh at a glittering sports auction. There were many personal items donated by 25 top sportspersons from the country and overseas. The champion batsman had scored an unbeaten 163 against New Zealand with this bat at Christchurch last year, his fourth highest one day score.

The rifle used by India's only individual Olympic gold medallist, shooter Abhinav Bindra, when creating history at the Beijing Games and the bat of Rahul Dravid, with which he had scored a century in each innings in the Kolkata Test of 2005 against Pakistan stood at second position. Both were successfully bid for Rs 20 lakh.

The bat signed by all team members of the 1983 World Cup winning team and donated by former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar went for Rs 17.5 lakh. Anil Kumble's jersey which he wore when he equalled Jim Laker's ten-wicket in a Test innings record against Pakistan in New Delhi in 1999, and his Test cap that he wore between 2004 and 2006 went for Rs 11.5 lakh.

                                       
 Among the other items auctioned off were Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer's shoes, a bat donated by 1983 World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev with the autographs of all the team members and sports gear donated by the super star shuttler Saina Nehwal and tennis player Sania Mirza. Doners Dravid, Kumble, tennis ace Leander Paes, national football captain Bhaichung Bhutia, 1974 hockey World Cup winning skipper Ajit Pal Singh, former hockey captain Viren Rasquinha and Bindra were present at the auction.
