Here Comes the BlackBerry PlayBook

The BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) is all set to launch its PlayBook in India later this month. This will offer tough competiton to Apple's iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab.
The Canadian firm will launch PlayBook in Indian markets and some other countries, including the UK, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Australia, and UAE.

The BlackBerry PlayBook is a tablet computer by Research In Motion (RIM), the Canadian telecommunications company best known for the BlackBerry smartphone. The company indicated that a new operating system, the BlackBerry Tablet OS, based on QNX Neutrino, will run on the tablet. The device was released for general purchase in the United States on April 19, 2011, and early sales figures note that approximately fifty thousand (50,000) were sold on launch day, and some analysts estimate RIM to sell 3 million during their first year!

New iPhone app, a substitute to stethoscope!

We all recognise a doctor by the stethoscope, aren’t we? But the latest news tell that this may not be possible in near future!

According to reports, stethoscopes may soon be history as millions of doctors across the world are signing up for a free iphone app that can monitor heartbeat!!! Peter Bentley of the University College London has invented the iStethoscope application, which monitors heartbeat through sensors in the phone. As many as 500 apps are being downloaded everyday since a free version was introduced last week.
“Everybody is very excited about the potential of the adoption of mobile phone technology into the medical workplace, and rightly so," Bentley said.

Brain can ‘see’ objects by ‘listening'!

Our brain has the ability to determine the shape of an object simply by processing specially-coded sounds, without any visual or tactile input. Don’t get surprised. Scientists at The Montreal Neurological Institute and McGill University have discovered this recently.  The research provides important new possibilities for aiding those who are blind or with impaired vision.

This means that our brains can be trained to recognize shapes represented by sound and the hope is that those with impaired vision could be trained to use this as a tool.
Following training, the study individuals were able to match auditory input to tactually discerned shapes and showed generalization to new auditory-tactile or sound-touch pairings. Neuroimaging studies have identified brain areas that integrate information coming from different senses – combining input from across the senses to create a complete and comprehensive picture.
Let’s hope for the best. This may write new chapters in the life of hearing impaired people.
