Goddess Lakshmi Swimsuits and Protests

The latest ‘real buzz’ is a bikini! As you think bikinis are always hot nuts to crack. Now it is an  Australian swimwear company, whose depiction of image of Goddess Lakshmi on swimwear attracted protests form aorund the world. The company’s name is Lisa Blue Swimwear. Lisa Blue website said that it represents the girl who “is not afraid to share her beauty with the world”. Oh, what a great concept! They can easily convey even bigger ideas if they find someone to stand nude?!
Demonstrations, marches... all have taken place in India as well. Over the weekend, demonstrators in Amritsar burned the Australian flag in protest, waving photographs of the offensive swimsuit and demanding that all of the garments be recalled.

Anyways, the company at last decided to cancell the production of swimwear with Lakshmi’s picture on it. In an “Important Press Release” posted in their website they said “…image of Goddess Lakshmi will not appear on any piece of Lisa Blue swimwear…” It is true that trivialization of religious convictions, symbols and concepts of anybody was not good and it was hurtful to devout. Businesses should display some ethical values also and not just always be focused on mercantile greed.
But what about our great tradition which created Kamsutra? Is gods are all against nudity? What is there so offensive against a dress piece with a picture?
Ohhhhh... questions, questions...meaningless questions... don’t ask too may questions...You have to live...
 and live peacefully.

Osama Bin Laden was Killed!?

"Justice has been done," said the American president Obama.  This is when he declared the death of Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11, 2001, terror attacks that killed thousands of Americans. "Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaida, and a terrorist who's responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women and children," Obama said in a surprise late night White House address.
The world's most wanted man had been killed in a Pakistani compound in an operation on May 1,2011.
The development comes just months before the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers and Pentagon, orchestrated by bin Laden's al-Qaida organization, that killed more than 3,000 people. The attacks set off a chain of events that led the United States into wars in Afghanistan, and then Iraq, and America's entire intelligence apparatus was overhauled to counter the threat of more terror attacks at home.
Al-Qaida organization was also blamed for the 1998 bombings of two US embassies in Africa that killed 231 people and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 American sailors in Yemen, as well as countless other plots.
Is this the end of Laden and his terrorist operations? Let's hope for the best.

'Chandrayaan' Comes to Thrill !!!

See the Trailor

‘Chandrayaan’, replete with amazing and thrilling scenes, is ready for release. This film produced in English by Labour India Educational Research Centre Marangattupilly Kottayam Kerala, the leading educational service provider in  India, is perhaps the first Space Fiction feature film made in India.
Santhosh George Kulangara

Chandrayaan narrates the astonishing story of the ‘Chandrayaan I’ exploration that hoisted the Indian Tricolour on the moon. The technicalities of launching a rocket  and the actual blast off that trembles the theatre will be   new experiences to the cinema audience.
The replicas of PSLV rocket, Chandrayaan, Spaceship etc were prepared in separate sets for the shooting.
A large number of labourers and artists worked for several months to complete them. The script and direction of the film are done by Santhosh George Kulangara, the first Space Tourist selected from India. He is also the director of the visual travelogue ‘Sancharam’ and has travelled to more than 75 countries to prepare the travel serial. He is the Managing Director of Labour India.
The film is highly exciting throughout with the launching of rocket, different stages of its trip from the earth to the space, the working of spaceship ‘Chandrayaan’,  its entry into the Moon’s orbit, the separation of the Moon Impact Probe (M.I.P) from the Chandrayaan and the anxious moments of its crashlanding on the lunar surface etc.
The complexities of science are visualised in such a manner that even laymen can follow them. The main persons who worked behind the original Chandrayaan mission have been portrayed in the film. About thousand actors and actresses from India and abroad have acted in this movie.
The filming of the movie was done on huge sets of the Rocket Assembling Building in Sriharikotta, Rocket Launching Pad, Mission Control Central Yard, Space Craft Assembling Building, PSLV Rocket, Chandrayaan Spaceship etc. The shooting locations included Delhi, Udaipur, Sriharikotta, Bangalore and several villages in Kerala. Besides, spacious studio floors were also used for filming the various scenes.
Highly talented technicians like Sabu James (Camera) Vinod Sukumaran (Editing) Nandu Kartha (Music) etc. have been working behind this cinema. The executive producer of this film, produced under the banner of Labour India, is Rajesh George Kulangara.
We all know that India’s Chandrayaan Mission was a grand success. But are you aware of the difficulties and the exciting events behind that mission? The film ‘Chandrayaan’ narrates that story. Let’s wait and see...!

Who is more influenial? Dhoni or Obama?!

What a question, isn’t it? Where is Dhoni and where is Obama?
Oh, no, don’t go with it, just wait. In fact Obama is nothing when compared to Dhoni, says none other than the illustrious Time magazine!

The Indian cricket captain M S Dhoni, who inspired the country to its first ODI World Cup title in 28 years, has been ranked above US President Barack Obama and global soccer icon Lionel Messi in Time magazine's list of 100 most influential people in the world for 2010. Dhoni is only the second Indian sportsman after Sachin Tendulkar to make the prestigious list.
Dhoni is ranked 52nd in the chart. He is the only Indian sportsperson to make this year’s list as well. The other Indians named were Mukesh Ambani (No. 61), V S Ramachandran (79), Azim Premji (88) and Aruna Roy (89). Obama was ranked only No. 86 and Messi at No. 87. The list was topped by Wael Ghonim, the Google executive who became the 'spokesman for a revolution' in Egypt.
The 29-year-old Dhoni, who has 2,925 runs in 54 Tests and 6,049 runs in 186 one-dayers, is the most successful Indian captain, under whom the team also won the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in 2007. The magazine described Dhoni as "captain fantastic". "Dhoni is now universally acknowledged as India's best captain ever. He's also its most likeable, exuding both cool confidence and down-to-earth humility.

Hasare's Crusade Won

Former Law Minister and co-chairman of the committee to draft the Lokpal Bill Shanti Bhushan on Saturday voiced hope that the proposed legislation would be passed “unanimously” by Parliament, insisting that any party opposing it would be seen as “not interested in removing corruption.”
Appreciating the government for responding to the call of the people to bring a law against corruption, Mr. Bhushan said the proposed body should be “totally independent, which can’t be pressurised by any political or judiciary people. It should be strong and should have teeth to cut corruption at all levels.”
The Ministers in the Joint Drafting Committee of the Bill would be able to devote time to finalise the draft by June 30. “As the notification states, we have to complete our task by June 30 and we hope to do that by June 30. We hope that provided the Ministers in the committee devote adequate time to it and I expect they would after this commitment,” he said.
Even the members of the movement including Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejariwal did not expect such an “overwhelming” response from the common people but the mass participation shows that “the public is fedup of corruption in the country”.

What is The Jan Lokpal Bill ?
The Jan Lokpal Bill (Citizen's ombudsman Bill) is a draft anti-corruption bill drawn up by prominent civil society activists seeking the appointment of a Jan Lokpal, an independent body  that would investigate corruption cases, complete the investigation within a year and envisages trial in the case getting over in the next one year.
Drafted by Justice Santosh Hegde (former Supreme Court Judge and present Lokayukta of Karnataka), Prashant Bhushan (Supreme Court Lawyer) and Arvind Kejriwal (RTI activist), the draft Bill envisages a system where a corrupt person found guilty would go to jail within two years of the complaint being made and his ill-gotten wealth being confiscated. It also seeks power to the Jan Lokpal to prosecute politicians and bureaucrats without government permission.
Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi and other known people like Swami Agnivesh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Anna Hazare and Mallika Sarabhai are also part of the movement, called India Against Corruption. Its website describes the movement as "an expression of collective anger of people of India against corruption. We have all come together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the Government to enact the Jan Lokpal Bill. We feel that if this Bill were enacted it would create an effective deterrence against corruption."
Anna Hazare, anti-corruption crusader, who started a fast-unto-death campaign, demanded that this bill, drafted by the civil society, be adopted. The website of the India Against Corruption movement calls the Lokpal Bill of the government an "eyewash" and has on it a critique of that government Bill. It also lists the difference between the Bills drafted by the government and civil society.
Salient features of Jan Lokpal Bill:
1. An institution called LOKPAL at the centre and LOKAYUKTA in each state will be set up
2. Like Supreme Court and Election Commission, they will be completely independent of the governments. No minister or bureaucrat will be able to influence their investigations.
3. Cases against corrupt people will not linger on for years anymore: Investigations in any case will have to be completed in one year. Trial should be completed in next one year so that the corrupt politician, officer or judge is sent to jail within two years.
4. The loss that a corrupt person caused to the government will be recovered at the time of conviction.
5. How will it help a common citizen: If any work of any citizen is not done in prescribed time in any government office, Lokpal will impose financial penalty on guilty officers, which will be given as compensation to the complainant.
6. So, you could approach Lokpal if your ration card or passport or voter card is not being made or if police is not registering your case or any other work is not being done in prescribed time. Lokpal will have to get it done in a month's time. You could also report any case of corruption to Lokpal like ration being siphoned off, poor quality roads been constructed or panchayat funds being siphoned off. Lokpal will have to complete its investigations in a year, trial will be over in next one year and the guilty will go to jail within two years.
7. But won't the government appoint corrupt and weak people as Lokpal members? That won't be possible because its members will be selected by judges, citizens and constitutional authorities and not by politicians, through a completely transparent and participatory process.
8. What if some officer in Lokpal becomes corrupt? The entire functioning of Lokpal/ Lokayukta will be completely transparent. Any complaint against any officer of Lokpal shall be investigated and the officer dismissed within two months.
9. What will happen to existing anti-corruption agencies? CVC, departmental vigilance and anti-corruption branch of CBI will be merged into Lokpal. Lokpal will have complete powers and machinery to independently investigate and prosecute any officer, judge or politician.
10. It will be the duty of the Lokpal to provide protection to those who are being victimized for raising their voice against corruption.
